The girls have returned from their grandparents and so has the chaos! My present was an ambush in my room while I was trying to get to sleep (joy!) and/or snack on unhealthy foods I'm not allowed to eat in the day/don't want to share with the children. I think we are all going to struggle getting used to all the noise again. The peace has well and truly been shattered.
The sleep schedule that was supposed to be practiced before school has, unsurprisingly, not been put in place. I fear that when Monday comes and the children are preparing for school, it'll be made much harder by their exhaustion (as if I needed more of a challenge.)
When Friday came around, I was forced, against my will, to participate in ‘hairdressers’ far too early in the morning. Apparently, I was the child getting my hair done by my ‘mummy’ and OBVIOUSLY it just had to be bunches! This is the aftermath…
Oh and of course, we have witnessed the return of the lip gloss making set. I cannot get over the fact it was 35CHF for a set that only has 8 containers (you have to make two at a time) and is overwhelmingly slimy. Gross.
The boy has gone to his friends house again, this time for a sleepover. I think the influx of energy, courtesy of the youngest, has proved too much for him and he needs to escape (already!) I am very tempted to join him…
Instead, I took two whiny girls to Carrefour (fav place) when it was raining. Stupid idea. Although, here we discovered exactly what kind of parent I will be. One word: embarrassing. Turns out that singing Can't Stop the Feeling in a public place at the top of your lungs (accompanied by killer dance moves) makes teenage girls want to die. I was intrigued by this box of tea
and insulted by this one.
Then, we had to carry a fair bit of shopping home in the heat. The weathers been crazy!
By Friday evening I really needed some time off before I brutally murdered someone. I think there was around 9 au pairs that met up at Charly’s pub, including one guy from Spain. (I'm not sure how rare male au pairs are.) There seems to be quite a large volume of Spanish people living here, which is great because that's a whole other culture I can learn about while I'm here!
Saturday brings the au pair meet up. It was meant to be a BBQ in Coppet however, the weather had other ideas. Thankfully, another venue was secured in Nyon (indoors) so I still got some time off, woohoo! This venue, however, was not exactly big enough for all the au pairs that showed up. Groups of us were happily chatting away, then were interrupted to basically do speed dating. Hard to do when you can't hear each other and have to yell questions to strangers!
Honestly though, I did meet some people I've been talking to on Facebook and WhatsApp, plus some new ones. I'm grateful to be meeting people and making new friends (fingers crossed!)
It absolutely peed it down as soon as we left the building, typical. And the car was parked in a neighbouring street, which is hard to find when you can't see your hand in front of your face!
When I returned home, I was greeted by an excited 13 year old who said there was a special surprise waiting for me in my room. I thought, great they've sabotaged my chocolate or eaten my crisps. Nope, my food parcel has arrived from my mum! 2 weeks late but MY CHOCOLATE AND BISCUITS ARE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy, happy days…
In a better mood (although peeved about having to work a Saturday night) I made popcorn for the kiddos. I may have made 3 bowls full…
It seems to have gone down a treat. Here's to easier days ahead!
